During my time at IBA Hamburg, I supported the planning and communication work for three major transformation areas on the Elbe island in Wilhelmsburg/Veddel (Hamburg): Spreehafenviertel, Elbinselquartier, and the Wilhelmsburger Rathausviertel. These projects are part of a broader district development process aimed at creating new mixed neighbourhoods with housing, workplaces, public space and local infrastructure. 

A core part of my role was the creation and processing of project plans and documents, especially clear, publication-ready graphics and layouts in Adobe Illustrator, used for internal coordination, stakeholder communication and public-facing materials. Alongside this, I collaborated on cross-cutting concepts that shape how the districts work in everyday life, including mobility, social/public space, and marketing/communication (e.g., translating planning content into understandable visuals and narratives).

My work touched different planning scales: from organising and visualising route hierarchies and public-transport connections (e.g., strengthening north–south links across the island), to supporting how public spaces, everyday services and neighbourhood identity are described and communicated. I also contributed through research and coordination with project participants, helping to align inputs from different actors and keeping materials structured and consistent across workstreams.

Across the three areas, the thematic focus varied: Spreehafenviertel is planned as a new neighbourhood at the Spreehafen with a mix of housing types, workplaces and open spaces, closely tied to connections with existing surrounding quarters.  The Elbinselquartier is conceived as a larger mixed-use district “between the canals,” combining housing, workspaces, green/open areas and community facilities.  The Wilhelmsburger Rathausviertel is designed as a new civic heart around the town hall and community centre, bringing together housing, services and public life.
